Walk With Me include in their motor tours the classic and world renowned one day driving route that is The Ring of Kerry. This private motor tour along a section of The Wild Atlantic Way touring route starts in Killarney and takes you on a journey of dramatic sea views, sheer cliffs and ever changing skies which is also part of the recently designated International Dark Sky Reserve.
Killarney as your starting point is the jewel in the crown of tourism for visitors to the island of Ireland and combines the beauty of the Lakes of Killarney, MacGillycuddy Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain Carrauntoohil, The famous Annals of Innisfallen which were illuminated by the monks living on Innisfallen Island showcasing life in early Christian Ireland.
Killarney was first made popular in tourism circles by the visit of Queen Victoria in 1861 and included a stay in the iconic Muckross House. In modern times Killarney has hosted the Adventure Travel World Summit in 2014, was voted the Tidiest Town in Ireland in 2011, and is the homeplace of Hollywood Actor Michael Fassbender.
Rural sheep farming is a way of life on The Ring of Kerry, carried on in green fields and valleys divided by ancient stone walls. The tour will offer you an opportunity to observe a local sheep farmer Brendan Ferris at work with his Border Collie dogs and sheep at his Kells farmland. You will also visit the ancient 8th century stone forts at Cahergal and Lenacalabuile on the outskirts of Caherciveen, the main town on The Ring of Kerry.
Your tour will travel through quaint villages and towns dotted along the coastal route with their old world pubs, restaurants and craft centers. You will visit the birthplace of Daniel O’Connell, The Liberator and his ancestral home at Derrynane House. The area is surrounded by Ireland’s highest mountain ranges reaching down to the wild Atlantic Ocean and perched on the very edge of the Continent of Europe.
You will drive through Killarney’s National Park, with its world renowned scenic locations such as Molls Gap and Torc Waterfall and home to Ireland’s only surviving herd of native Red Deer and the recently reintroduced rare White Tailed Sea Eagles. The tour will conclude with a visit to Killarney’s Muckross House and Gardens.
