Tour of Skellig Michael and The Skellig Ring
The 6th Century monastic site on Skellig Michael is situated off the south west coast of Ireland on the very edge of the continent of Europe and is one of only three UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the island of Ireland.
A visit to the shores of Ireland is not complete without having visited this most unique and mystical of places.
Skellig Michael where St. Finian founded his monastic settlement is in close proximity to the other Skellig rock known locally as ‘Sceilig Beag’ and is home to 23,000 nesting pairs of Gannet seabirds. Both Rocks are home to various seabirds such as Guillemot, Razorbill, Fulmar, Kittiwake and Puffins which are best viewed early in the morning.
Skellig Michael was one of the film locations for the Star Wars movies The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
The tour will start on the outward leg of the famous Ring of Kerry touring route and travel to the quaint fishing village of Portmagee where the boat departs to The Skelligs. Alternatively you can visit The Skellig Experience centre where you can view an informative audio visual presentation about The Skelligs, tour the Exhibition Centre and avail of a boat trip around The Skelligs that does not land on The Skellig Rocks but offers a wonderful maritime experience.
Following your return from Skellig Michael, we will complete a road trip of The Skellig Ring to include a visit to The Skelligs Chocolate Factory and Ballinskelligs Priory where the Monks from Skellig Michael finally settled when they vacated Skellig Michael in the 12th Century.
