The Beara Peninsula Sightseeing Tour

This private motor tour takes you from Killarney into the wilds of West Cork and out on the Beara Peninsula visiting one of the most remote and scenically beautiful parts of Ireland. This area is very much ‘off the beaten path’ with some great attractions and locations to visit including The Caha Pass.

The tour will visit the town of Glengarriff which is the gateway to The Beara Peninsula. You will visit the home of Molly Gallivan in Bonane who supplemented an income for her family by producing and selling poitin, an illicit liquor similar to moonshine.

You will visit the monument to the five O’Sullivan brothers who died in 1942 serving on the ship USS Juneau. Their ancestors came from the Beara Peninsula. The tour will also take you to Castletownbere and a visit to MacCarthy’s Bar the home of Dr. Aidan MacCarthy a hero of the Second World War who survived the bombing of Nagasaki, is immortalised in the documentary film A Doctor’s Sword.

Allihies Copper Mine Trail

The tour includes the Dzogchen Buddist Meditation Retreat Centre which is located high on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in a place of outstanding scenic beauty and serene peacefulness where one can contemplate life. You will have time to visit their Café and Bookshop perched on the cliffs, relax and let the world go by.

The burial site of The Children of Lir is part of Irish Folklore and Mythology and is located on the outskirts of the village of Allihies.   There is a popular cable car ride to Dursey Island, Ireland’s only cable car, and there is the Copper Mine Museum in Allihies that contains the history of copper mining in the area in the 1800’s.

The tour will return to Killarney through the quaint villages of Eyeries and Argroom. The Beara Peninsula is an area of unspoilt beautiful scenery, should be visited at least once in your lifetime and will live long in your memory.
